Schengen visa cover letter for students
For students, the strongest reason to return home is your course. Your cover letter should show when your term starts again and who pays for the trip.
What to say in your letter
- Where you study: university, course and year.
- Why the dates work: the trip is during a break, and you are back before classes start.
- Who pays: usually a parent. Say so, and add their sponsorship letter and bank statements.
- Your return: the date you come back and the date your term resumes.

Questions people ask
Who sponsors a student's Schengen visa?
Usually a parent. They write a sponsorship letter and add their bank statements and proof of income, and the student mentions it in the cover letter.
Do I need a letter from my university?
Most consulates ask for proof that you are enrolled. Some also like a no objection letter for the dates of the trip.
Requirements differ between consulates and change over time. Always check the official checklist of the consulate you apply to. This page is general information, not legal or immigration advice.
