Croatia Schengen visa cover letter: sample and tips
Croatia joined the Schengen area in 2023, so a Schengen visa now covers it. Summer coast trips are the most common reason to apply.

Where and how to apply
- Check the Croatian embassy's website for your country. It names where to apply and gives the checklist.
- Main destination rule. Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb with a day in Kotor, Montenegro, is still Croatia if most nights are there. Note that Montenegro is not in Schengen, so leaving and coming back needs a multiple-entry visa.
- Book early for summer. You can apply up to 6 months before the trip.
What your letter should say
The consulate checks four things: why you travel, where you stay, how you pay, and why you will return. A one-page letter covers each of them in a sentence or two, then lists the documents you enclose. The full cover letter guide explains each part.

Good to know for Croatia
- Island and coast trips mean many moves. List every stop and ferry with dates, so the bookings match night by night.
- If you plan a day trip to Bosnia or Montenegro, ask for a multiple-entry visa and say so in the letter.
- Travel medical insurance must cover at least 30,000 euros for every day of your stay.
If you stay with family or friends
If you stay with family or friends in Croatia, your host usually writes an invitation letter, often certified by a notary, and adds a copy of their ID or residence permit. Check the embassy's list for what it expects. You can prepare the personal letter with the invitation letter guide.
